Svobodné Heřmanice: Hotels and Accommodation

The flooded Šífr slate quarry is located about 500 metres from Svobodné Heřmanice railway station and can be reached on foot. Other facets of the town range from its history and parish church to a tourist railway line and named cycling routes.

History and Culture

The first surviving written mention of Svobodné Heřmanice is found in a document issued by Pope Innocent IV in Lyon in 1250. The foundation of Svobodné Heřmanice is closely connected with the colonising activities of the Cistercian order.

Svobodné Heřmanice is home to the parish church of the Most Holy Trinity. The Neoclassical church was built in 1786 on the site of a wooden church constructed around 1560 and demolished in 1785. A memorial in the town also commemorates the victims of the First World War.

Landscape and Surroundings

The Heřmanický potok flows from north to south through the centre of Svobodné Heřmanice and divides the municipality into two parts.

The Ovčák, Kozinec and Vinice mountains are located in the surroundings of Svobodné Heřmanice. Mount Rudná lies in the wider regional area. The ruins of Cvilin and Vildštejn are also located in this wider regional area.

Railway and Cycling Routes

The Hvozdnický expres is a popular tourist train that operates from May to the end of September on the railway line between Opava východ and Svobodné Heřmanice stations.

Cycle route 6164 runs via Staré Heřminovy to Svobodné Heřmanice. Cycle route 6159 runs via Bratříkovice to a junction in Svobodné Heřmanice.
