To this day, Dolní Životice preserves the characteristics of what is known as a forest-strip village in its settlement pattern and the original division of its fields.

History

The remains of the water castle are also known as “Polákovo kolo” and are located on private property. This water castle and the village of Životice were destroyed by the Tatars in 1241.

Culture

The Reconciliation Cross stands on a bridge over the Hvozdnice River and is a cross made of coarse-grained sandstone, 80 cm high and 60 cm wide. It documents the administration of criminal justice in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The Dolní Životice Distillery is a technical monument and was one of the first electrified buildings in the region. Valuable artistic elements have been preserved there even after the façade reconstruction.

The Chapel of St. Salvator in Dolní Životice was built in 1769. The Chapel of the Divine Saviour is a Baroque pilgrimage chapel. Count Camillo Razumovský commissioned the Church of the Most Holy Saviour in 1908; it is an eclectic historicist church with a dominant tower and an enclosing wall. In front of the entrance to the château grounds stands a copy of the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk on the original stepped pedestal.

During the winter months, children and adults use Panský rybník for ice skating.
