Culture and History

The Baroque Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Jakartovice dates back to 1755. The Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1725, is also part of the historic character of the village.

Jakartovice was founded by German colonists and was first mentioned in 1250. During the Bohemian–Hungarian Wars, the village fell into decline in 1472 and was resettled in 1540. Jakartovice is also part of the Krajina Břidlice National Geopark.

The Jakartovský karmaš has been held annually on the first Saturday in September since 1995. The festival includes a mass, fairground attractions, brass band music, refreshments and evening entertainment.

Nature

The Jakartovice adit was created through the extraction of clay slate. It is not open to the public; entry is prohibited. At the same time, it is an important wintering site for bats, particularly the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis).

The Jakartovice area is protected as a habitat for the dusky large blue butterfly (Maculinea nausithous). Between Jakartovice and Mladecko there is also a complex of floodplain meadows with accompanying trees and shrubs.

Things to Do

Near Jakartovice there is a flooded slate quarry that is used for swimming in summer. The area around Jakartovice is suitable for hiking.

At the edge of Jakartovice, a forest track leads towards Bohdanovice to several former ponds associated with slate mining. The track is also suitable for bicycles. In the forest between Jakartovice, Staré Heřminovy and Svobodné Heřmanice, near the 482 m high Za Starou Vodou hill, there are several ponds that are not suitable for swimming.

The Hvozdnický Express runs on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 1 May to 28 September 2026. Its route between Opava and Svobodné Heřmanice includes Jakartovice as a stop. A tourist hut is located in the forest about 1 km beyond Jakartovice and is rented only annually from 1 April to 31 October.
