Nature and Trails

The Hvozdnice Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral areas of Slavkov, Štáblovice and Uhlířov. In the northern part of the Uhlířov cadastral area, the forests border the Hvozdnice Nature Reserve. The protection regulations for the nature reserve came into force on 1 January 1989.

The local water system includes the ponds Přední and Zadní, which are connected by the Uhlířovský potok stream. The Uhlířovský potok stream flows into the Hvozdnice River. The Hvozdnice educational trail can be reached from Uhlířov and is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. The area around Uhlířov is suitable for walks in nature all year round. The mixed forests around Uhlířov offer opportunities for gathering mushrooms and wild berries.

History and Education

The first surviving written mention of Uhlířov dates from 1389; at that time, the village was a fief of the Bishopric of Olomouc in the so-called Keřkov district. Uhlířov probably originated as a settlement of Slavkov. The name of the village probably derives from charcoal burners who produced charcoal there.

The first school building in Uhlířov was erected in 1861. In 1883, an independent one-class school was officially established there. František Miroslav Juchelka was the first teacher at this independent one-class school.

Culture and Village Life

The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in Uhlířov was built in 1871. The war memorial stands on the village green at the site of the former chapel. It commemorates residents who lost their lives in concentration camps and during the fighting for liberation.

Traditional local events in Uhlířov include “vodění medvěda” (“walking the bear”), felling the maypole, and Christmas and Easter folk customs.
