Sudice: Hotels and Accommodation

Sudice lies in the gently hilly agricultural landscape of the Hlučínská pahorkatina and slopes down toward the valley of the Oldřišovský potok. The elevation of the village ranges from 238 to 255 metres above sea level.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint John the Baptist complex in Sudice was declared a cultural monument in 1990. The Basilica of Saint John the Baptist is a pseudo-Gothic, three-aisled basilica with a transept, built of red brick and stone between 1904 and 1906. Sudice is also home to an Evangelical and Orthodox church consecrated in 1909. It was originally built as an Evangelical funeral chapel; today, services of both denominations are held there.

Outside Sudice, on the road to the Czech–Polish border, stands a memorial to Czechoslovak tank crews, erected in 1960. On 28 March 1945, Sudice was the first municipality in the Opava District to be liberated.

Festivals and Local Traditions

The Sudický odpust, held annually on the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, is a two-day festival in honour of the patron saint of the municipality of Sudice. The programme includes music and a fireworks display on Saturday. A wide range of refreshments with numerous homemade specialities is also available.

Nature and Trails

The Bílá voda stream flows through Sudice. Cycle route 6055 runs from Třebom via Sudice, Rohov and Strahovice through the Chuchelenský les toward Albertovec and onward to Kravaře. The 8.0-kilometre cycle route 6153 runs from the Kietrz/Třebom border crossing via Třebom, where it connects to cycle route 6055 toward Sudice, and onward to the border crossing in the direction of Racibórz.

The blue-marked hiking trail from Sudice to Hlučín runs via Rohov and Strahovice to Chuchelná, through the Chuchelna and Bělá forests, and continues past the remains of the border fortifications to a reconstructed fortress that is open to the public in the area of the Czechoslovak fortifications.

Transport and Border Crossing

Bus connections link Sudice with Opava and Ostrava. Construction work on the Sudice–Pietraszyn road border crossing between Poland and the Czech Republic was completed on 14 October 1993.
