In Štítina, sacred architecture, historical traces, regional events, and marked cycling routes come together.
Culture and History
The Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene is a cultural monument and sacred architecture designed in the Renaissance style on an octagonal floor plan. Masses are still celebrated there on July 22, the feast day of its patron saint.
Historical traces include the underground remains of the Gothic fortress of Štítina. It was later converted into a four-winged Renaissance manor house; the remains are considered valuable evidence of an important medieval aristocratic residence in the Opava region. The above-ground part was demolished in 1988.
The monument to Private Ivan Kubince is listed among the cultural monuments. It commemorates a soldier of the 1st Czechoslovak Armored Brigade who was tortured to death on April 18, 1945, during the liberation of Štítina.
Events
The Memoriál Ivana Kubince volleyball tournament has been held at the beginning of May every year since 1966. Since 2002, the municipality of Štítina has also organized the regional showcase of rural amateur theater groups “Štivadlo”; ŠAMU is its main organizer. “Před sušedovym zeleny ořech” is considered a folkloric spring showcase.
