Velké Heraltice Castle has a complex architectural history spanning from the end of the 13th to the 19th century and is one of the most significant château complexes in the Opava region. The château complex includes an orangery.

Culture and History

The medieval church in Velké Heraltice was built in the second half of the 13th century or during the 14th century. Its crypt contains three wooden coffins holding priests who served there in the 18th century. The church organ was built in 1756 by organ builder J. S. Staudinger from Andělská Hora and is considered the third-oldest organ in the region.

The family crypt of the Bellegarde family next to the church in the cemetery along the perimeter wall was probably built in the last third of the 19th century. It takes the form of a single-sided colonnade with five arches on columns with Doric capitals.

Nature

The Heraltický potok locality is a meandering watercourse with oxbow channels and wet meadows, inhabited by the rare brook lamprey. In Hůrky, there is a unique mixed-age mixed forest, predominantly consisting of the original Sudeten larch population.
