Velké Hoštice: Hotels and Accommodations

Notable buildings in Velké Hoštice include Velké Hoštice Castle and the Church of St. John the Baptist. The castle was converted into a late Baroque aristocratic residence in the second half of the 18th century. The church is a monumental late Baroque sacred building with a two-tower façade.

Culture and History

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built in 1773 according to a design by Jakub Pánek. Frescoes by Franz Anton Sebastini have been preserved inside. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Velké Hoštice dates from the second half of the 18th century, while the Chapel of the Body of Christ has a semicircular floor plan, dates from the second half of the 19th century, and is built into the enclosure wall near the church.

The village square in Velké Hoštice is adorned with a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The chateau park in Velké Hoštice is an extensive landscape park established at the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century. An infantry bunker that can be visited in Velké Hoštice was part of the Czechoslovak border fortifications. Velké Hoštice Castle also housed an exhibition on archaeological excavations in the cadastral area of the municipality.

Velké Hoštice is connected to neighboring municipalities and towns by bus and rail services.

Cycling Route

Cycling Route No. 55, “Slezská magistrála,” runs between Krnov, Opava, and Velké Hoštice and was ceremonially opened on the last day of May.

Event

The Velkohoštický odpust was a public family event with a concert and a festive character.
