Skalka U Prostějova: Healing Springs, Spa Forest and Geology

Culture
Lázně Skalka was founded in 1928. The Chapel of St. John the Baptist in Skalka was built in 1828; its designation is associated with the local healing springs.
The Pivín–Skalka educational trail was ceremonially opened in August 2019 and has eight information panels covering the history of the municipalities, the surrounding nature and the spa resorts. Veronika Janíková created the educational trail; it was implemented in cooperation with the municipalities of Pivín and Skalka.
Nature
Skalka’s spa park is located on the site of the former Bařisko pond. In the spa forest, the “Tóny lesa” project includes newly installed educational and play elements: an educational dendrophone, a memory game and “Strom jako dům”. It also includes balance and fitness elements as well as a forest megaphone.
The sports area of Lázně Skalka includes a multi-purpose court and a miniature golf course. When planning, the various stations can be considered separately as educational, exercise and play elements.
Geographical setting
Skalka - písky is an extensive, horseshoe-shaped former extraction site with a diameter of 70 m and walls 10–12 m high. It is located near Lázně Skalka on a marked hiking trail and displays a unique sequence of Sub-Badenian sediments.
Jezírka Skalka is a geotourism site. The former small quarries are now filled with water; greywackes of the Myslejovice Beds emerge from Sub-Badenian pelites of the Carpathian Foredeep Basin.
Předina, which is considered a mountain, is located in the immediate surroundings of Skalka. The hill known as (Kelecká) [Otaslavice] is also located in the surroundings of Skalka.
