Sobíšky between History, Chapels and Viticulture

Sobíšky bring together documented local history, several small religious buildings and paths through the surrounding area. The oldest written mention of the village comes from a document dated November 3, 1275. Historically, Sobíšky was also the center of the self-governing Půhončí community. The village’s history therefore includes both a specific date and a distinctive former administrative and community structure.

History and Religious Buildings

One prominent building is the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. It was built in 1660 by the judge Jan Pavlíček. The chapel is Baroque in style and has been extensively restored; the work included the altar, the benches on both sides and the choir. Services are held there only for the Feast of Saint Anthony on June 13. Next to the chapel, the restored statue of Saint Augustine stands on a pedestal. Thus, in addition to the religious building itself, the site includes restored furnishings and another specifically named religious object.

Other historical traces include Půhončí House No. 14. Its facade features a preserved porticus, a column-supported entrance hall with a flat ceiling. Drbalova Chapel is now called Kolářova Chapel and stands on the road to Lazníky. Jarošova Chapel is located on the road to Zábeštní Lhota, near the highest point in the municipality. The local features are thus spread across one house, two chapels and the Chapel of Saint Anthony with its surroundings.

Architectural Traces

Dvůrů Castle is also part of Sobíšky’s architectural character: its present form dates from 1842. The castle stands above Sobíšky and is not accessible. Below the transformer station near “Dvůr” lies Bašta, a cylindrical stone lime kiln and, at the same time, a limeworks.

Routes and Surroundings

Sobíšky is part of the Pobečví microregion. The Jantarová stezka long-distance cycle route runs through this microregion; from it, further interesting routes lead toward the Oderské vrchy and Hostýnské vrchy hills. Within the village, a yellow-marked hiking trail begins at the bus station and leads toward Vinařský les. For geographical orientation, the long-distance cycle route and its directions can therefore be considered separately from the local yellow-marked trail.
