The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Újezd is documented in 1296 under the patronage of the Lords of Šternberk.

Culture and townscape

A new Church of Saint John the Baptist was built in 1585; its uncovered tower has been preserved to this day. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Újezd was designated a protected cultural monument in May 1958. The Marian column in Újezd is dated 1859.

The Immaculata statue stands in the centre of Újezd at the intersection of the main road between Uničov and Šternberk and a local road leading to the church.

Routes and transport

Újezd is located on the frequently served Olomouc–Hanušovice railway line; trains run in both directions almost hourly.

Cycle Route 511 passes through Újezd and runs from Litovel via Červenka, Dětřichov, Želechovice, Brníčko, Paseka, Sovinec, Křížov and Stránské to Rýmařov.

Sections 1, 2, 2A and 3 of the Šternberk–Uničov pedestrian and cycle path are located in the cadastral area of Újezd u Uničova. Stage III between Mladějovice and Újezd was built in 2023.

Landscape and local life

The Teplička river floodplain stretches through Haukovice and Újezd.

Village festivals organised by local associations and organisations are part of Újezd’s cultural life. The traditional switching-on of the Christmas tree in Újezd includes fireworks, punch, the singing of Christmas carols, small stalls, and performances by pupils from primary schools and kindergartens. The Spolek František association traditionally organises a meeting of devils with Saint Nicholas and an angel in the parish garden.
