Chroustovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Chroustovice is characterized by its château complex on both banks of the Novohradka and by its expansive landscaped grounds. The château garden forms the centre of a Baroque-designed landscape and is part of a unique historic late-Baroque green space. Its design was influenced by the gardens of André Le Nôtre and features a pronounced illusionistic character.

Gardens and Landscape

In the formal garden, avenues of lime trees line the monumental canal of the Novohradka. The section of the Novohradka encompassing Chroustovice also features a natural-looking riverbed with meanders, sand and gravel banks, pools, and remnants of floodplain vegetation.

Culture

The history of the village includes several sacred monuments. The present-day Church of Saint James the Elder in Chroustovice was built in 1744 after the former church had been demolished. Its pewter baptismal font bears the year 1510. On the square, in the small park to the left of the church, stands a column with a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1804; in the lower part of the square, in front of the municipal office, there is an iron cross with Christ, erected in 1836.

On the road to Luže stands a statue of the Holy Trinity. It was created in 1891 by the local sculptor Dušánek, based on a model from the sculpture school in Hořice. On the road via Březovice to Chrudim, between four mature lime trees, there is a stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1729.

The signposts are also part of the village’s appearance. The signpost in Chroustovice consists of local sandstone and an inserted ceramic section. The stone signpost stands on the left at the turn-off to Městec and Uhersko, at the edge of a large lawn belonging to the local school.

Opening

Chroustovice Château is normally not open to the public. However, an Open Gardens Day is planned at the château for 20 September 2026, with guided tours starting at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
