Kněžice: Hotels and accommodations

Cycle route 4234 runs from Mladotice via Kněžice to Spytice. It is 5.5 kilometres long and is an easy connecting route. Kněžice lies in a rolling landscape enclave in the foothills of the Železné hory, between the left bank of the Doubrava and the course of the Doubravka stream.

The 4188 cycle route between Podhořany u Ronova and Ronov nad Doubravou also runs through the Kněžice planning area. A cycle loop through the Kněžice area leads towards Běstvina, Třemošnice, Závratec, Mladotice, Ronov nad Doubravou and Chvalovice, offering views of the Železné hory, the Čáslav region and the Českomoravská vrchovina.

The regional biocorridor RK 1336 runs through the Kněžice area along the Doubravka and Hostačovka watercourses. It includes the local biocentres BC5 – Na březině, BC6 – Obecní dolík and BC7 – Kněžická stráň.

Culture and history

About 2 kilometres from Kněžice stands St Martin’s Church on a rock above the Doubrava. It was originally the parish church of the vanished village of Stusyně. The first written mention of the village of Stusyně and its parish church dates from 1352.

At house no. 23 in Kněžice are archaeological remains of a fortress, which is listed as a cultural monument. Kněžice is also associated with the historic Libická (Liběcká) Trail. From the 8th to the 12th century, it was used as a route connecting Bohemia and Moravia.

The masonry chapel in Kněžice was built in 1930 in place of an earlier wooden bell tower.

Transport and location

Kněžice lies outside the main road and railway connections of the East Bohemia region. Three bus routes operate in the area. There are two bus stops on road III/33733: Kněžice and Kněžice, bytovky.

A route to St Martin’s Church that is accessible by vehicle and on foot all year round leads from Kněžice.
