Lány lies in the valley of the Bylanka River. The river crosses the village from south to north; the local Bylanka–Lány biocorridor also runs along the stream flowing through the municipality.

Nature and landscape

The surroundings of Lány include the Bučina and Krkanka mountains. The Palác hill near Heřmanův Městec is located in the nearby area, while the Na Hranicích hill near Jeníkovice u Choltic is situated in the wider surroundings of Lány.

Culture and history

The Kozojedská fortress was built in the 13th century. The fortress in Lány is associated with a mention of Bohuněk of Lány dating from around 1386. The remains of the Kozojedská fortress include a visible main acropolis and traces of the former moat.

The site of the Kozojedská fortress can be reached via a turn-off from road I/17 towards Sobětuchy, followed by a smaller local road and then upstream along the stream.
