Vápenný Podol combines tangible evidence of church and industrial history with paths through the village and elevations in its immediate surroundings.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Wenceslas, Kostel sv. Václava, is part of the village’s history: construction began in 1788 on the site of an earlier chapel, the church building was completed in 1790, and the tower was completed in 1796. An organ by the Prague-born organ builder Petr was installed in the gallery in 1892. The church also houses the Baroque painting “Klanění Tří králů” by Jan Onghers. The Horem dolem Podolem educational trail includes a stop at this church.

The Muzeum Retro Jolana is a private museum of Czech electrophone guitars and equipment. It is considered the first private museum of its kind in the Czech Republic.

The Dolní vápenka was established in 1873 in a sunken terrain depression on the right bank of the Podolský potok as a two-shaft lime kiln with external heating. Documentation for the reconstruction of this technical heritage site has been prepared step by step since 2023.

The historic building of Lázně svatého Václava has been preserved; the facility operated until around 1940, and the spring was destroyed by blasting during limestone extraction.
