Újezd u Sezemic lies between Újezdský Pond and Bohumilečský Pond; the two ponds are connected by Bohumilečský Stream. Újezdský Pond lies northwest of Újezd u Sezemic and features shallow areas, reed beds, smaller islands covered with trees and shrubs, as well as vegetated shores.

Nature

Újezdský Pond is an important stopover site along the migration route for water-dependent and other water-associated species. The site is also a regular breeding ground for several duck species.

History

Újezd was first mentioned in 1436. The early establishment of Újezd and Bohumilec is believed to be connected with the Benedictines of Opatovice. Újezdský Pond also has historical significance: in 1588, it was one of 56 manorial spawning ponds.

Culture

Local sights in Újezd u Sezemic include a wooden bell tower. The local stone cross near the wooden bell tower dates from 1908. The crucifixion monument is also one of the sacred historical sights of Újezd u Sezemic.

A monument near House No. 37 commemorates those who fell in both world wars. In the Zástava district, there is a stone cross dating from 1924. Regular commemorative ceremonies are held at the well-maintained war memorial in the town center to honor the victims.
