Culture and History

Kunětická hora is a national cultural monument with a remarkable medieval fortification system. Open-air theatre performances, concerts, festivals and themed historical programmes are also held there. Pardubice Chateau is a Renaissance building whose preserved remains can still be visited; today, it houses the East Bohemian Museum and a gallery.

The Kladruby stud farm is one of the oldest stud farms in the world and is home to the oldest original Czech horse breed, the Old Kladruber. The landscape of Kladruby nad Labem lies in the Elbe Lowland in the Střední Polabí area. It includes fields, meadows, fenced pastures, a landscaped park, wooded areas, buildings and farmsteads, and continues to be used for breeding and training ceremonial carriage horses of the Kladruber breed.

Nature and Trails

Visitors can walk through the Kladruby Polabí Protected Landscape Area. A red hiking trail from Přelouč to Kladruby nad Labem leads across the Slavíkovy ostrovy and past the Semín Aqueduct. A yellow hiking trail runs from Stéblová to Kunětická hora near the Baroch Nature Reserve.

The Opatovický Canal is considered suitable for less demanding boating.

Lázeňský Park in Lázně Bohdaneč has well-maintained paths, benches and lawns for walking and relaxation. Baroch is an ornithological site where visitors can encounter common and rare bird species. Baroch also includes a grazing reserve where visitors can see buffalo and wild horses.

Bohdanečský rybník is designated as a national nature reserve. The protected area preserves aquatic, wetland and forest ecosystems around the pond, including wet meadows, reed beds, black alder forests, willow stands and oak forests. The nature reserve is accessible only via marked paths; the birdwatching hide on the Polákov peninsula, however, is accessible without restriction.

Pardubice is directly connected to the marked CT-2 Elbe Cycle Route. It includes paved paths and sections separated from road traffic.

Regional Context

Pardubice lies at the confluence of the Labe and Chrudimka rivers. Lázně Bohdaneč is considered the only spa town in the Pardubice Region.

Flavours

The gingerbread tradition of Pardubice dates back to the 16th century. Near Kunětická hora is Perníková chaloupka, featuring a gingerbread museum and fairy-tale attractions.
