Culture and History
The Chapel of St. Procopius in Sázava dates from 1858. Its main altar dates from the 19th century; the chapel also houses a painting of Saint Teresa from the second half of the 18th century.
The first written mention of Sázava dates from 21 May 1304 and appears in a deed of donation issued by King Wenceslaus II.
River Landscape and Surroundings
The Moravská Sázava flows through Sázava. The mountains Zámecká hora and Lazek are located in the immediate surroundings of Sázava. Cukrová Bouda and Obora are mountains in the vicinity of Sázava.

The recommended 16 km hiking route Zámecký vrch II – Lanškrounské rybníky begins in Sázava, includes a 6 km circular route around several ponds and then leads back to Sázava. The recommended 23 km hiking route Mariánská hora II – Sázavské údolí also begins in Sázava, passes through the Sázavské údolí and ends in Sázava.
The Sázavský ples is one of the most popular events in Sázava. In the Sázava–Lázek 2026 run, the route initially follows asphalt and then continues along field and forest paths; the greatest ascent is in the final kilometre, with an elevation difference of 375 metres. The Sázava–Lázek 2026 run is associated with the football pitch in Sázava u Lanškrouna as the event venue.
