Culture

The Marian column in Janov is a sandstone pillar with a statue of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus, dating from 1863. It was financed by Johann and Barbara Ratzek. Because of the planned route of the D35 motorway, the pillar was moved from its original location on the I/35, as the route affected the area of the former site.

The Chapel of St. Hubert is located in Mendryka near Janov. The settlement of Mendryka lies on the edge of the municipality of Janov; during the Renaissance, Vratislav z Pernštejna had a hunting lodge built there. Another small château was built in Mendryka during the Baroque period.

Getting Around

A 2.5 km-long cycle path runs between Janov and Strakov; the cycle path project was expanded to include a section for pedestrians and new public lighting.

Community Life

The JK Janov equestrian club was founded in 1969 and hosted 22 qualifying rounds of the Zlatá podkova. Today, JK Janov regularly hosts equestrian competitions; the Janovské derby is one of the Janov competitions that continue to be held.
