Klenová: Hotels and Accommodations

Klenová combines the history of a medieval castle with a chateau, contemporary art, and a landscape surrounded by several mountains. The origins of Klenová Castle date back to the second half of the 13th century.

History

The moat at Klenová has been preserved around almost the entire castle; in front of the chateau, it was filled in during the 1830s. In the 19th century, Count Joseph Philip Edward Stadion-Warthausen and Thannhausen had a chateau built in the area of Klenová’s southern fortifications. The western part of the chateau was designed in the Neo-Gothic style, which is considered one of the very early examples of its use in Bohemia.

Art and Exhibitions

The permanent exhibition at Klenová Chateau presents Czech modern art from the gallery’s collection in four salons of the chateau. It also includes historical furniture and 19th-century interiors.

Two recurring exhibitions are held each year in the Klenová granary: “Contacts” in the first half of the year and the “START POINT PRIZE” in the second half. At the beginning of each exhibition season, the recurring “Cesta” exhibition provides children with a space to present their work. At “Cesta,” visitors vote for one work; a professional jury of the gallery’s art historians and visual artists awards the best authors with gold, silver, and bronze palettes.

Architecture and Outdoor Art

The “Stadionská” Chapel is notable in Bohemia for its preserved interior, which was not altered later. The restored “Stadionská” Chapel was reopened to visitors on April 1, 2017, as part of a guided tour with commentary. The sculpture park in the area of Klenová Castle includes works by Vincenc Vingler, Jiří Seifert, Jaroslav Róna, Václav Fiala, Márius Kotrba, and Anton Čierny. After the collapse in the 19th century, the area in question was transformed into a viewing terrace.

Nature

The mountain Úliště [Javor - Loučany] is located in the immediate vicinity of Klenová. The mountains Pohoří, Jezvinec, and Můstek are also located around Klenová. In the wider region around Klenová is the Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg zoo.
