Horní Staňkov – Castle, Hildegard Chapel and Routes to Sušice

An information board and outdoor seating have been installed beside the Chapel of Saint Hildegard. The chapel was built at the end of the 19th century following the premature death of Hilda, the 18-year-old daughter of JUDr. Gustav Schreiner, and dedicated to Saint Hildegard. Lesy České republiky rebuilt it using historical photographs. The personal occasion, the religious dedication and the later reconstruction are part of the same story of this building. At the chapel, the personal occasion, religious dedication and reconstruction based on historical photographs come together.

The castle and chapel thus differ in their origins and architectural form. The castle is characterized by its rectangular, single-storey form, hipped roof and polygonal turret; the chapel focuses on its dedication to Saint Hildegard and its origin story connected with Hilda. The adjoining farm buildings complement the castle complex, while an information board and outdoor seating have been installed beside the chapel.

A red-marked hiking trail runs through Horní Staňkov. It climbs to the Chapel of Saint Hildegard and runs through Horní Staňkov and Svatobor to Sušice. The trail thus connects the religious building with a route via Svatobor to Sušice.

Cycling Route 2031 connects Velhartice, Horní Staňkov, Cihelna, Svojšice, Odolenov and Sušice over 12 km. In addition to the red-marked hiking trail, there is therefore a cycling route with its own number, a specified length and six connected locations. The hiking trail leads to the chapel and via Svatobor, while the cycling route incorporates Horní Staňkov into a connection from Velhartice to Sušice. Before hiking, travelers should check current trail conditions; current route information is also advisable for Cycling Route 2031. Current trail conditions are relevant when preparing for a hike, while for a cycling trip, current route information should additionally be checked. A chapel may also have its own opening hours; these times can be checked before departure. For routes involving several of the locations mentioned, current transport timetables are also part of the usual preparations when the outward and return journeys are planned together.

The wider surroundings of Horní Staňkov include Mount Svatobor, Mount Vosík [Hartmanice-Javoříc], Mount Javorná and Mount Vysoký hřebet.

The Velhartice Educational Trail also runs in the wider surroundings of Horní Staňkov, along a stream on the border of the Borek Nature Reserve. The Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg zoo is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Horní Staňkov. The specific destinations thus range from the educational trail by the stream and nature reserve to a zoo in the wider regional area.
