Poběžovice combines sacred history, a Japanese Zen garden and themed circular trails with distinctive natural monuments.

Culture and History

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was founded around 1500 and contains furnishings dating from the 17th to the 19th century. The Chapel of St. Procopius was rebuilt in 2013–2014 and consecrated on 26 September 2014.

The Japanese Zen garden is open in the grounds of Poběžovice Castle. The stone garden commemorates the stay of Mitsuko Aoyama Coudenhove-Kalergi and her family, who lived at the Poběžovice estate as its last owners until 1945.

Nature

The protected large-leaved lime tree of Poběžovice is approximately 360 years old and has a trunk circumference of 785 cm. A new path from Poběžovice leads to the lime tree and offers two seats.

Trails

The Městský okruh is a 4 km sightseeing circular trail through Poběžovice. The Okruh Zámecký park is a 2 km educational trail presenting 13 selected tree species, the history of the park and historical photographs. The Židovský okruh is a 5 km walking trail exploring the Jewish history of Poběžovice. The Hřbitovní okruh is a 3 km walking trail to three current or former burial sites in Poběžovice.

The Městské kulturní a informační středisko provides information about transport connections and helps plan guided excursions.

Events

The Poběžovické pouťové slavnosti, held from 21 to 23 August 2026, include the traditional Panevropský půlmaraton, which will be held for the 18th time in 2026, as well as the Zámecké slavnosti in the castle park.
