Discover Český Rudolec: Trails, Culture and Brewing Tradition

Near Radíkov, the circular route of the Graselova Trail joins a red-marked hiking trail and leads back to Český Rudolec. The yellow disc with the white “G” therefore belongs to the marking of the circular route, while the red marking indicates the connection near Radíkov. The two signs identify different sections of the same trail network and make the connection between the starting point, junction and return along the route clear. Along the Graselova Trail, visible traces of historical silver mining have been preserved near Kutiště.

In the vicinity of Český Rudolec, Skalka, also known as Kofrštán or Měděný vrch, is a rocky granite peak reaching 679.3 metres, with 10- to 15-metre-high rock walls on its northern side. Filipovy kameny form a granite rock formation about 100 metres long; the Hornoradíkovský stream disappears beneath it, and there are plunge pools between the large boulders.

The Church of St John the Baptist, dating from 1440, defines the centre of Český Rudolec. Malá Hluboká is a protected immovable cultural monument. After the fire of 1860, Malá Hluboká acquired its present romantic appearance in the Tudor Gothic style through reconstruction.

At the Malá Hluboká tourist centre, visitors can purchase tickets for guided tours of the chateau. The complex includes an English park, the layout of which was already begun towards the end of the 17th century. The orangery was used to grow exotic fruits; one of its special features was the cultivation of pineapples.

In the vicinity of Český Rudolec, Vodní pila Peníkov is protected as an immovable cultural monument. The small wooden water mill, which has been fully preserved, can be reached via the Graselova Trail or the blue-marked hiking trail after approximately 40 minutes on foot. At Vodní pila Peníkov, guided tours and demonstrations of sawing are offered by the Zkrášlovací spolek Rudolecko beautification association.

On the Český Rudolec–Slavonice section, the Chapel of the Holy Cross is visible shortly after leaving Český Rudolec.

Beer was already being brewed at the present site of Pivovar Grasel in 1539; the brewing tradition continued until 1897, and in 2015 the Zámecký pivovar Český Rudolec was re-established from the ruins. The Pivovar Grasel brewery in Český Rudolec invites visitors to taste its own beers.
