Nature and Trails

The Jindřišské Valley is approximately 7 km long. The section from Jindřiš to Pod Blažejovem measures approximately 3.5 km, as does the section from Pod Blažejovem to Malý Ratmírov. The valley is characterised by the presence of block scree forests, fir stands and relict pine forests, as well as protected plant and animal species.

The marked trail through the Jindřišské Valley is suitable only for pedestrians; in particular, the lower section of the valley is impassable by bicycle. After passing through the wilder section of the Jindřišské Valley, the route from Jindřichův Hradec to Malý Ratmírov reaches the embankment of the Ratmírovský Pond.

The Ratmírovský Pond lies near Malý Ratmírov, directly on the Hamerský potok; Malý Ratmírov belongs to the municipality of Blažejov. The pond is currently used as an important recreational site. The Jindrova educational trail has a children's section at all information boards, intended for preschool children and younger schoolchildren.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Elizabeth stands in Blažejov and was originally an early Gothic building from the second half of the 13th century. The portal on the ground floor of its tower dates from around 1300. In 1863–1864, the church was extended and remodelled in the pseudo-Romanesque style. The single-nave masonry building has a polygonal presbytery, buttresses and a western tower.

Below Blažejov, the remains of Vítkův hrádek can be viewed on a rocky promontory above the Hamerský potok. The medieval guard castle dates from the first half of the 13th century. Its remains are easily accessible from Blažejov via a marked hiking trail. Vítkův hrádek is an important archaeological site in the municipality of Blažejov; the triangular castle core, protected by a rampart and moat, contains the remains of a wall and a palas featuring so-called herringbone masonry.
