History

Nová Olešná was established in the 12th century. Due to its secluded location, the settlement became one of the places of refuge for the Bohemian Brethren. The first written mention of Nová Olešná dates from 1379. Until 1947, the place was called Německá Olešná, Deutsch Wolleschna in German.

Culture

In the centre of Nová Olešná stands the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. The brick-built, plastered chapel with a three-sided chancel is located on a sharp bend. It is an example of small Baroque sacred architecture; its stone portal is dated 1722, and the chapel from 1722 has remarkable bells.

The Jan Amos Comenius monument stands at the former cemetery of the Bohemian Brethren on the southern edge of Nová Olešná. It is a granite stone from 1929 erected on a pedestal. The monument stands on an unfenced, grass-covered area with mature trees. It bears a bronze relief medallion with the inscription "J. A. KOMENSKÉMU" and the teacher’s head, as well as the inscription "PAMÁTCE / ČESKÝCH BRATŘÍ".

Nature and Leisure

Malý Bukač is a natural monument protecting the ecosystem of a pond and the surrounding habitats with specially protected and significant animal and plant species, particularly amphibians.

Komáří louka is intended for public leisure use. The grounds are suitable for individuals, families with children, and smaller and larger groups. There is a tennis court at Komáří louka; tennis equipment can be rented.
