Kostelní Vydří: Hotels and Accommodations

Kostelní Vydří, with the pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, is one of the pilgrimage sites of the Diocese of Brno. The combination of churches, a monastery, historic buildings, and an educational trail shapes the character of the town.

Pilgrimage and Churches

The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was built between 1787 and 1789 and is open almost all day for free admission. The lower Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was converted from a Gothic church dating from the beginning of the 14th century; outside worship hours, it is not accessible from the inside.

The Carmelite monastery was established in the mid-18th century so that priests would be available to pilgrims every day. Carmelites from Austria began their service at the Marian pilgrimage site in 1908 after Baron Bedřich Dalberg invited them. The so-called “lower pilgrimage” is celebrated on the first Sunday in July as the Feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary.

A large car park and a public toilet, also accessible to people with disabilities, are located directly next to the church and monastery complex. Culture and History

A Baroque stone bridge dating from around 1730 is a historic landmark in Kostelní Vydří. It bears statues of Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Joseph.

The Baroque château in Kostelní Vydří was built near a Renaissance fortress originally dating from the 16th century at the beginning of the 17th century and redesigned at the beginning of the 19th century. The château is a single-storey building with two wings, a vaulted passageway, and stone window surrounds.

The Linden Alley to the Dalberg Family Tomb is 129 metres long and includes 24 linden trees. It is located in Kostelní Vydří next to the Carmelite monastery. A Stations of the Cross route is situated near the Linden Alley to the Dalberg Family Tomb. Friedrich, his wife, and their two sons are buried in the cemetery on the hill opposite the Carmelite monastery.

Nature and Trails

Station 9 of the educational trail is dedicated to the protected Carmelite lime trees. The Educational Trail Through Natural Sites is intended for pedestrians; some sections cannot be traversed by cyclists.
