The Church of St. Lawrence in Ledenice was built around 1300 on the site of an older chapel. The early Gothic building has a rectangularly enclosed presbytery; in 1782, it was supplemented by a Baroque tower. The church and the rectory are listed as an immovable cultural monument under ÚSKP number 41645/3-219. This monument also includes a gate and an enclosing wall.

To this day, a stone pillory dating from 1778 stands in Ledenice’s square, on the road in front of the school building. It is considered an exceptional monument to the history of justice. The town hall is located in a former brewery building, where beer has been brewed since the 16th century. There are also three statues of Saint John of Nepomuk in Ledenice; one of them dates from 1842 and was created by an unknown folk artist.

The private Fink Marionette Museum includes a permanent puppet theatre where performances based on family scripts are staged upon request. The operator continues to repair old marionettes and make new ones to this day. The museum can be visited after ringing the bell or by calling 606 925 146 in advance. The local craft tradition is also documented: the training centre for practical carpentry education builds on a local carpentry tradition of more than one hundred years; an independent vocational school has existed there since 1968. The virtual museum in Ledenice explores the living traditions of carpentry and furniture making from the 19th century to the present day.

History

The former castle site was located immediately above Dolní Hradský Pond. After the castle’s demise, residential houses were built there. The name of the district of Hrad, located southeast of the stream, recalls a former manor and is one of the few surviving references to it. The game preserve mentioned below Ledenice Castle in 1376 was one of the oldest aristocratic game preserves in Bohemia and disappeared along with the castle during the Hussite Wars.

Nature and trails

Small bodies of water within the built-up area of Ledenice – including Bagr, Dolní and Horní Hradský, Dolní and Horní Jáma, Lazna, Parčák and Slavíček – are popular destinations for walks and fishing, as well as for ice skating in winter. Adamovský Pond, also called Adamec, lies east of Ledenice and, at presumably at least 8 hectares, is the largest pond in the Ledenicko area. The former rectory garden with a small pond was transformed into a park-like recreational area in 2004.

Cycle Route 1050 has been newly signposted and now leads to Ledenice away from the main road. A combined pedestrian and cycle path was built from Ledenice to the junction with Ohrazeníčko.
