Nevězice: Hotels and Accommodation

Nevězice combines a Celtic oppidum with a historic village character and several named hiking and cycling routes. The oppidum is situated on a picturesque mountain spur above the Orlík Reservoir.

Culture and History

The Celtic oppidum of Nevězice was founded on a strategically located mountain spur with an older settlement dating from the Late Bronze Age. It served as an administrative and power centre for a larger region. Under Section 2 of Czech Act No. 20/1987 Coll. on State Heritage Preservation, the oppidum is considered a cultural monument. Its good reputation and renown are first mentioned in 1444.

The historic village character of Nevězice includes a number of farmsteads and smallholder houses dating from the mid-18th to the mid-19th century. Most of these historic farmsteads and smallholder houses have now been carefully restored. A folk song about the masons of Nevězice also appears in K. J. Erben’s collection “České národní písně”.

Hiking

The red hiking trail from Sušice to Příbram passes through Nevězice. The green Orlík–Zvíkov hiking trail follows the historical development of the region. The Celtic oppidum southeast of Nevězice is one of the stops on this green hiking trail.

Cycling

The “Okolo Orlické přehrady I” cycling route passes through Nevězice and is 35 km long. It is considered a moderately difficult route.
