Sousedovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Archaeological finds show that the area of present-day Sousedovice has been inhabited for more than 2,000 years. The first written mention of Sousedovice dates from 1243.

Culture and History

In the older Iron Age, around the 4th century BC, a settlement surrounded by stone walls stood on Hradiště. According to reports, after being resettled by a Slavic tribe around the 7th century, Hradiště and its outer bailey remained in use until the 10th century. In 1243, Bavor I donated part of Strakonice Castle and several villages, including Sousedovice, to the convent of the Order of Malta.

The chapel on the village green in Sousedovice is considered an important monument. The village chapel in Sousedovice was reconstructed in 2002. Next to the Sousedovice municipal office stands a monument to those who fell in the First World War, erected in 1936.

Landscape

Sousedovice lies at the foot of the 600-metre-high Hradiště. To the west of Sousedovice rises the wooded hill of Kamenná Bába, also called Skalice, at an elevation of 555 metres. Southwest of Sousedovice stretches the long, wooded hill of Kbýl, 664 metres high, towards Libětice.

The extensive Hůl forest stretches between Sousedovice and the municipalities of Drachkov and Pracejovice. The Kamenná baba geological formation lies behind Sousedovice along cycle route 1068. Cycle route 1068 passes through Sousedovice and runs through a landscape offering far-reaching views.

Events and Routes

A traditional Masopust procession takes place every year through Smradice, Libětice and Sousedovice. A masked carnival for children is also held annually in Sousedovice.

The final 150-metre section of the turn-off to Kbíl is very challenging for mountain bikers; less experienced cyclists can walk this section.
