Village Character

The historic centre of Zvěrotice is designated as an urbanistically valuable part of the area. The central village square is laid out as a circular square with a broad public space, surrounded by original agricultural farmsteads and connected by an extensive network of paths.

The chapel on the village square in Zvěrotice is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. Southwest of the village, on the embankment of Road II/135, there is a Neoclassical niche chapel. It is a distinctive landmark in the landscape and an important landscape-defining feature.

History

A historical record from 1460 mentions Zvěrotice together with two mills and the forests known as “Na Libuši”. The name Zvěrotice is explained as being derived from the personal name Zvěrota, which is considered to have been the name of the founder of the settlement of Zvěrotice.

The first documented mention of Zárubův Mlýn mill dates from 1648; the Záruba family operated the mill for almost 200 years. The mill stands west of Zvěrotice on the Černovický potok.

Cycling Routes and Sports

Cycle Route 1180 runs from Soběslav via Zvěrotice to Sedlečko u Soběslavě. Within the administrative area of Zvěrotice, it follows a local road between existing buildings towards Sedlečko u Soběslavě.

The public multipurpose sports field in Zvěrotice is equipped with artificial turf for small-sided football, handball, football tennis, volleyball, floorball, basketball and tennis. A freely accessible toilet is available in the operational building for visitors to the sports complex. The sports field and its associated operational building are available to the public and can, by arrangement, be made available at specific times for sports and social events.

A blue-marked hiking trail runs northeast of Zvěrotice. The surroundings of the village are characterised by fields, meadows, ponds and copses.
