Šardice: Hotels and accommodations

Šardice is part of the Slovácká wine-growing region. The village brings together sacred buildings, wine-making traditions, cycling and excursion routes, and the landscape of the Moravian Tuscany.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel is an Early Baroque church built on older Gothic foundations and remodeled into its present form in the 18th century. A massive square tower with seven floors stands on its western façade.

The Augustinian residence was built in 1740–1742 on the site of an older granary. The abbot Johann Gregor Mendel, known as the founder of genetics, stayed there during the summer months. The residence currently houses a permanent exhibition of measuring instruments and scales, a peasant room, an exhibition of traditional costumes, a ceremonial hall, concert and lecture halls, exhibition rooms, and an information center.

On the outskirts of Šardice, along the Šardice–Hovorany cycle route, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built and consecrated in 2015. It contains a statue that was originally installed in the chapel of the former summer residence of the Brno Augustinians, built in 1740–1742.

Chalúpka No. 97 was originally a farmstead and is the oldest officially documented building in Šardice. Since June 1, 2019, it has been open as a museum of village life from a hundred years ago. It can be visited year-round by telephone appointment with the owner at 603 878 007.
