Culture and History

The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Hrabětice dates back to 1863. The path to it is lined with six statues of Franciscan saints from the late 18th century. A much older trace leads back to 1417: the first written mention of Hrabětice is found in a subject's or urbarial tax record of Count von Hardegg.

On the outskirts of the village, a Stations of the Cross with 14 concrete pillars bearing images of the stations, as well as a chapel, stands on a hill. The elevated Stations of the Cross offer a broad view of the surrounding landscape, including neighbouring Austria and Galgenberg Hill. Hrabětická Kalvárie is a recently renovated former pilgrimage site embedded in the natural surroundings.

Nature

The protected Trávní Dvůr natural area lies within the cadastral territory of Hrabětice. It is a site of European importance with mixed ash-alder floodplain forests, as well as habitats for waterbirds, wetland birds, amphibians and insects.

Trávní Dvůr also preserves a surviving, multi-part remnant of the Dyje floodplain between Hevlín and Jevišovka. This floodplain remnant includes abandoned river channels, small bodies of water, floodplain meadows and characteristic vegetation.

Festivals and Routes

Krojované hody takes place every year in June around the feast day of Saint Anthony. Traditionally, it includes the handover of the festival rights, a procession of the costumed group through the village and a traditional evening celebration. Babské hody is organised by local women and usually takes place on the first Saturday in September.

Regional cycling paths and international cycling routes run through the countryside around Hrabětice.
