Discover Kaly: Křivoš, Chapels and Cycling Routes

The central Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene stands in the centre of Kaly. It dates from 1883 and is a state-protected cultural monument. An old bell tower dating from 1834 stood approximately on its site. Above the entrance, a sculpture of St. Florian is located in a niche. Directly next to the chapel stands a monument to those who fell in the First World War; it is made of Nedvědice marble. On the northern outskirts of Kaly, an undated cast-iron cross stands beside a field path on a sandstone pedestal that is now badly damaged.

In the Zahrada district, the gable of the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene bears the year 1915. It was renovated after 1990.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from the Kaly bus stop through the Zahrada district to the Křivoš Lookout Tower. From the Křivoš lookout, the marked trail passes notable small waterfalls of the Kalský potok stream. The Křivoš Lookout Tower is open year-round, free of charge and freely accessible.

The large cycling circuit of the PORTA microregion runs via Předklášteří, Dolní Loučky, Kaly, Zahrada, Štěpánovice and Lomnička back to Předklášteří. It is 16.00 km long and measures 16.76 km in total via Babylon Hill. From Kaly, cyclists can continue either directly or via Babylon Hill, where a viewing platform, a panoramic map and a place to rest have been built, to the Zahrada district.

The short Štěpánovice–Borač–Kaly–Štěpánovice cycling circuit is 7.71 km long. The “Na Babylon” cycling excursion is approximately 14 km long and leads from Borač, the Vrby district, along an uphill forest path to the Babylon lookout above Kaly. Optionally, at Zahrada you can continue to Křivoš and then descend to Dolní Loučky. The different lengths and routes can be compared directly when planning your own day trip.

To travel from Brno to Kaly, take train S3 and change in Tišnov to bus route 335 towards Drahonín/Olší. On this journey, you can get off at the Kaly or Kaly, Zahrada stop.
