The tradition of the Horňácké slavnosti festival dates back to 1957. Velká nad Veličkou is also home to the Horňácké regionální centrum, a cultural and educational institution focusing on the traditional folk culture and history of Horňácko. Historical details are also part of the village’s character: The nave is a later addition from 1756, and the church has a preserved bell from 1669. The birthplace of Martin Zeman is a designated birthplace.
