Kovarska: Hotels and Accommodation

The origins of Kovářská are owed to the mining and processing of iron ore. In 1599, a true blast furnace was built here, one of the first in Bohemia.

Location and Ecclesiastical Heritage

Kovářská lies in the valley of the Černý potok, also known as Černá voda. The original town centre is dominated by the Baroque Church of St. Michael, built in 1709–1710. Its coffered ceiling is decorated with images of saints; a Baroque Marian column from 1706 stands in front of the church.

Near the Chapel of St. Mark stands an iron cross dating from 1871. The Chapel of St. Mark, built in 1913, is located behind the municipality in the direction of Černý potok.

Traces of Industrial History

Behind Kovářská railway station are the remains of an old lime kiln built in the 1850s. A stone monument near the station commemorates an event from that period and until recently bore a relief with the German inscription “Švédský hrob 1641 – Rašeliniště smrti”.

The Museum of the Air Battle over the Ore Mountains on 11 September 1944 organises annual meetings of aviation veterans in Kovářská.

Walking Trail and Railway Line

The walking trail “Mrtvou cestou na Vápenku” begins in the square in Kovářská and passes the ruins of the former ironworks in Kovářská. Its return route leads back to Kovářská via the forest path “Mrtvou cesta”. Kovářská railway station is located on the Chomutov–Vejprty railway line.
