Baliny: Nature Trail, Balinka Valley and Historic Mills

The boundary of the Přírodní park Balinské údolí nature park extends to Baliny. The diverse habitats of the Balinka Valley are home to species associated with river, meadow and forest communities. Lush vegetation, particularly willows, alders and poplars, grows along the high banks of the Balinka Valley. The differences between information boards and habitats can serve as an objective basis for comparison.

The Okruh Balinským údolím circular route is 15 km long; its starting point is on the road between Velké Meziříčí and Uhřínov, opposite the turn-off to Hotel Amerika. Parking for a passenger car is possible at the starting point. On paved paths, the circular route is suitable for cyclists and strollers in the Velké Meziříčí–Šeborov and Svařenov–Hrbov–Velké Meziříčí sections; in the Šeborov–Svařenov section, the surface is difficult to traverse.

The differences in length and surface are directly relevant when comparing route options. When planning a trip with children, the natural history stations and the sections mentioned as suitable for strollers can be considered separately.

Several separate characteristics are relevant when assessing the circular route: its total length, the specifically designated starting point, the possibility of parking a passenger car and the different surfaces of the individual sections. Baliny has been mentioned in written sources since 1317. There was already a manor and a mill in Baliny in the 14th century. The now-disused Čermákův mlýn mill is one of the oldest mills in the Balinka catchment area; it is mentioned in written sources as early as 1381. The Doležalův (Valův) mlýn mill was probably built by the manorial estate in the 15th century.

The local history is not limited to a single mill: it includes the manor, the mill in the 14th century and two separately named mills with their own dates. Thus, the mention of the village and the documented information about the mills form a chronological sequence, without this implying a uniform state of preservation.
