Číhošť: Hotels and accommodations

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Číhošť is a single-nave Gothic building with a five-sided closed presbytery and a sacristy on the north side. It is already mentioned in records from 1350 and features distinctive ear-of-grain masonry on its exterior façade.

The Josef Toufar exhibition was opened in the Číhošť parish house on December 11, 2014. In front of the altar of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the grave of Josef Toufar lies beneath a stone slab in the floor on the church’s main axis. He is also commemorated by the Ecce Homo monument by sculptor Roman Podrázský, which was unveiled on September 22, 1990. During the Číhošť miracle, the cross located on the tabernacle moved several times during a Mass sermon on December 11, 1949.

The exhibition about Josef Toufar and tours of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary can be visited by prior arrangement, usually after a church service or at another agreed time. The SDH Firefighters’ Museum in Číhošť can be visited at any time by telephone appointment.

The blue-marked Cesta Josefa Toufara trail runs between Leština and Smrčná through Číhošť. The village is also the main attraction of the 23rd stage of the Centrální stezka between Ledeč nad Sázavou and Golčův Jeníkov; the geometric center of the Czech Republic is located there. This center can be reached by bicycle, on foot, or by motorcycle.
