Skuhrov: St. Nicholas Church and Hiking Trails

Skuhrov is a place where history, religious heritage and hiking offer three different points of access. These topics can be considered separately, without reducing Skuhrov to just one theme.

History

The first written mention of Skuhrov dates back to 1352. In 1352, Skuhrov was already a flourishing settlement with a church and its own parish.

St. Nicholas Church was originally built as a Gothic church in the first half of the 14th century; the church tower was added in the Empire style in 1811. A bricked-up Gothic portal has been preserved in the southern wall of the nave. The church has been protected as a cultural monument since 1963.

In the center of Skuhrov, St. Nicholas Church stands on a small hill and is surrounded by a cemetery. The cemetery around the church includes a rectangular Baroque mortuary chapel dating from 1707 to 1712. The church also contains a statue of the Suffering Christ dating from the mid-18th century, as well as a stone baptismal font from around 1700. Skuhrov's Baroque rectory was built in 1728 by V. Smekly.

Religious Sites

On the road to Havlíčkův Brod stands the rectangular Chapel of St. Florian, built in 1783. Its façade is structured by pilasters supporting a cornice and a semicircular pediment. In front of the gate of house no. 64 in Skuhrov stands a granite cross with beveled edges. According to local tradition, it is one of the crosses that once lined the Haberská trade route.

Masses are held at St. Nicholas Church twice a week, as well as additionally on public holidays.

Hiking

A yellow-marked hiking trail from Lipnice nad Sázavou to Lysá passes through Skuhrov. On August 24, 2016, a 10 km hike led from Skuhrov along the yellow-marked trail toward Komárov and Malčín, then via Dobrá Voda to Pohled. A specific route length therefore uses a different planning scale from the described course of the hiking trail.

The travel dates define the time frame; the room category makes different offers comparable, while the cancellation conditions show the financial flexibility available in the event of changes.
