Sloupno is located in the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area.
Landscape
The Železné hory area around Sloupno belongs to the Trhovokamenická vrchovina highlands; its dominant mountain is Vestec. At 668 metres, Vestec is the highest point in the Železné hory area. The Vestec terrain feature is considered a hill and lies in the vicinity of Sloupno. Also nearby is the (Martovy) terrain feature [Slavíkov u Chotěboře], which is considered a hill. In the wider regional surroundings of Sloupno are the Bučina and Světka terrain features, which are considered mountains.
The Sloupno quarry near the village of Štikov is active; metadiorites, metagranitoids, amphibolites and metagabbros of the Železné hory pluton are extracted there.
Cycling
The Ždírec nad Doubravou–Havlíčkova Borová–Bílek–Štěpánov–Ždírec nad Doubravou cycle route passes through Sloupno. The Chotěboř–Havlíčkova Borová–Krucemburk–Podmoklany–Chotěboř cycle route also runs through Sloupno. The Ždírec nad Doubravou–Sloupno–Veselý kopec–Radostín–Ždírec nad Doubravou cycle route is a difficult, hilly route running mostly on roads, suitable for road and trekking bikes.
Culture
A stone statue by the road is a landmark of Sloupno. The village also has a restored bell tower and a cast-iron cross. In 2005, the Štikovská lípa received the title “Tree Hero” in the nationwide “Tree of the Year” competition.
