Veselý Žďár: Hotels and Accommodation
The history of Veselý Žďár includes the freedom monument, which was unveiled on 28 October 1919 in memory of liberation on the village green by the pond in front of Mr Kubáta’s inn. The local stonemason Jan Krupička, house no. 86, carved it from a discarded granite block.
History
During the Second World War, the freedom monument had to be removed and dismantled on the orders of the gendarmerie and stored at Karel Pecha’s, house no. 82. It was re-erected on 28 October 1946 at 2 p.m.
The first documentary evidence of Veselý Žďár dates from 1379; at that time, the name “Zdar” appeared in old documents. Another memorial is the monument to those who fell in the First World War, which was reconstructed in 2001 based on a design by Ing. arch. Voigstová.
Villagescape and Nature
The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas stands beneath the crowns of four lime trees. In 1933, it was repaired using the proceeds from a house-to-house collection and reconsecrated. An arboretum is located on the site of the former poplars; there is also a shelter in the school garden.
