Brtnice combines the exploration of natural beauty with historical monuments. On the Brtnická Trail, paths through the landscape and the history of the town come together.
Paths and nature
The circular route through Brtnice on the Brtnická Trail is 2,700 m long. The Brtnická Trail connects to a system of cycling paths and hiking trails. A section from the ruins of Rokštejn to Brtnice can be covered on foot via a blue-marked hiking trail and is approximately 7.5 km long.
Culture
The Židovský (Dolní) Bridge in Brtnice is a Baroque stone bridge decorated with six art-historically valuable statues of saints by the local sculptor D. Lipart. The view from the Židovský Bridge of the château is sometimes referred to as “Brtnické Hradčany.” Brtnice Château is considered one of the important aristocratic residences in Moravia.
The château contains the so-called Sál vjezdů, with stucco decoration from the 1730s. It also contains a valuable, unique cycle of 11 hanging paintings by the painter Töpper. The oldest surviving gravestone in Brtnice’s Jewish cemetery dates from 1672. The Paulánský Monastery was built between 1639 and 1644.
The parish Church of sv. Jakuba Většího also preserves a remarkable detail: a richly decorated Renaissance copper baptismal font in the shape of an apple on a branch.
The Josef Hoffmann Museum is located in the birthplace of the architect and designer Josef Hoffmann in Brtnice. Seasonal exhibitions are held there every year and are attended not only by specialists but also by the general public.
Accessibility
The Paulánský Monastery is accessible only from the outside. The Church of blahoslavené Juliány Collalto and its tower are accessible during events and religious services, as well as by prior arrangement with the parish office.
