Hybrálec: Chapel and Mining History in the Jihlava Ore District

Hybrálec is located in the historic Jihlava Ore District and was established through German settlement in the central part of what was then the Českomoravská vrchovina. The first written record dates from 1315, when the village was known as Eberharsdorf. Hybrálec was founded to guard the important trade route from Jihlava to Humpolec. These historical connections give the village a clear setting shaped by settlement history, trade routes, and mining.

History

A prominent testimony to the village’s history is the Chapel of St. Wenceslas. This late Baroque religious building with a vernacular character was erected in 1828–1829 as a dominant feature on the village square. Its façade is articulated by pilasters and features a volute gable and a small roof turret. The Chapel of St. Wenceslas, including the plot of land, is protected as a historic monument.

Architecture and Mining

The history of mining also includes the Štola sv. Jana Nepomuckého, also known as Trpasličí jeskyně. It was opened in 1776 and reached a length of 330 metres after several years of operation. Today, the Štola sv. Jana Nepomuckého is currently inaccessible and flooded.

Routes

The Štola sv. Jana Nepomuckého can be reached from the car park near Borovinka Pond via the Hybrálec turn-off from Road No. 38. The route leads across the pond’s dam and along the forest. Another connection to the subject of mining is provided by the Hornická naučná stezka. It passes through places with clearly visible remains of mining and brings visitors closer to the history of silver mining in Jihlava.

The Great Tourist Circular Route around Jihlava also passes through Hybrálec. Its route runs from Rantířov via Plandry and Hybrálec to Zborná.
