Telc: Hotels and accommodations

The historic center of Telč developed within an unchanged urban layout bounded by a fortification system of ponds, moats, walls, and gates. Telč Chateau was built in the second half of the 16th century on the site of a former Gothic castle as a representative residence strongly influenced by the Italian Renaissance; its original grounds have been uniquely preserved and are complemented by historic interiors.

Culture

The Telč chateau grounds include a French garden and an extensive English park with an orangery.

Telčské podzemí comprises an accessible 250-meter-long section of interconnected medieval cellars beneath Zachariáše z Hradce Square and part of the chateau grounds. A multimedia exhibition there presents the town of Telč, its surroundings, and important moments in its development.

The exhibition on the history of rail transport at the Telč railway depot covers the history of rail transport in the Czech Republic and Austria. Historical railway carriages, technical equipment, and other objects from railway history are on display.

The Městská galerie Hasičský dům presents short- and long-term exhibitions of visual art, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and works of art from the collections of museums and galleries. Several solo exhibitions are held there each year.

The late Romanesque Tower of the Holy Spirit, dating from the first half of the 13th century, is the oldest surviving architectural monument in the town and is 49 meters high.

Nature

Lipky, an avenue protected as a natural monument and used for walks, lies in the immediate vicinity of Telč. Also nearby, at the Štamberk castle ruins, parts of the walls, the foundations of several buildings, and a freestanding wall have been preserved; the ruins are freely accessible.

The Oslednice observation tower has a viewing platform at a height of 31.2 meters. From there, Telč, Roštejn Castle, and Javořice Mountain are visible. From the bus and train station, follow the road to the roundabout; from there, a yellow-marked trail runs 500 meters to the Oslednice observation tower.

Cycle route

Cycle route 1113 begins in Telč and leads via Mrákotín to Jindřichův Hradec; it is 44 kilometers long.
