Kostelec: Hotels and Accommodation

In Kostelec u Jihlavy, water sports on Silniční rybník are subject to specific dimensions and fixed times. The water area designated for water sports is 550 metres long and 150 metres wide; in the cadastral area of Kostelec u Jihlavy, water skiing and acrobatic activities may be practised there daily from 07:00 to 19:00. International water-skiing races known as the Kostelec Cup are held regularly in June. According to the regional tourism information service, Kostelec is the only place in the Vysočina region where visitors can try water skiing. The KVL Slavoj Kostelec water-skiing club has been active at Silniční rybník since 1969; at the water-skiing venue, visitors can rent equipment and receive expert instruction.

Culture and History

The Church of St Kunhuta was built no later than the mid-13th century on a hill above the Jihlava River and has a preserved Gothic south portal.

The historic Humpolecká trade route ran through Kostelec towards Třešť and presumably crossed the Jihlava River there at a ford. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the road to Jihlava received new roof timbers and sheet-metal roofing, as well as exterior painting and interior decoration.

Local Traditions

In 1917, the company Továrna na uzeniny a konzervy, spol. s r.o. was founded in Kostelec. Kostelecké uzeniny have been part of the country's culinary traditions for more than a hundred years.

Routes

Kostelec u Jihlavy railway station is located on line 225 between Havlíčkův Brod and Veselí nad Lužnicí, as well as on line 227 between Kostelec u Jihlavy and Slavonice. The Jihlava–Čeřínek–Kostelec cycling trip follows cycle route 5090 from Cejle to Kostelec.
