Josef Florian founded the Dobré dílo publishing house in Stará Říše. Towards the end of the First World War, Stará Říše had become a centre of poetic and visual Expressionism.

Culture

The Church of All Saints in Stará Říše is a Baroque parish church located on a road. The present Church of All Saints was built in 1758 on the site of the former Church of St Peter, which was destroyed in a fire in the town. Together with the statue of St John of Nepomuk, it is registered as a cultural monument under ÚSKP identification number 18609/7-5216.

Opposite the church stands a Baroque rectory built in 1758. The rectory at No. 37 in Stará Říše is registered as a cultural monument under ÚSKP identification number 40928/7-5217. A wayside shrine in Stará Říše is registered as a cultural monument under ÚSKP identification number 36828/7-5220.

A free-standing niche chapel called Poklona stands by house No. 144 in Stará Říše. The Poklona niche chapel dates from the first half of the 19th century. A Baroque wayside shrine dated 1715 stands on the outskirts of Stará Říše. The Baroque wayside shrine has a four-sided chapel with flat niches and a pyramidal finial.
