Region and History

Zadní Vydří lies in a picturesque landscape at the foot of the Jihlavské vrchy and belongs to the Telčsko microregion. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1385. The settlement originally belonged to Šternberk Castle; in the 16th century, Zadní Vydří was called Krajní Vydří.

South of Zadní Vydří lies a Jewish cemetery with approximately 150 Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones, most of which date from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Landscape and Nature

The Vyderský stream, among others, flows through the area of Zadní Vydří. Along its entire length, it is a natural watercourse.

The registered significant landscape feature V Kopcích lies 700 metres southwest of Zadní Vydří. It consists of dry, acidic nutrient-poor grasslands on shallow soils and shrub vegetation and is an important refuge for invertebrates.

Cycling Routes and Circular Tours

Cycling route No. 5124 passes through Zadní Vydří and shares part of its route there with route No. 16. The interregional Czech-Moravian cycling route No. 16 leads from Slavonice via Dačice, Kostelní Vydří, Telč, Roštejn, Třešť and Jihlava, continuing towards Polná.

The 34-kilometre circular cycling tour “Cycling Around Telč – Day 1” leads from Telč via Kostelní Myslová, Náglův statek, Zadní Vydří, Černíč and Nová Říše back to Telč.

The “Scenic” cycling tour leads from Telč at an elevation of 525 metres via Kostelní Myslová and onward to Zadní Vydří. The section from Telč to Kostelní Myslová is listed as 5 km, while the section from there to Zadní Vydří is 2 km.

A cycling tour from Dačice via Zadní Vydří to Telč is intended for recreational cyclists who want to combine exercise with sightseeing. Another 31-kilometre cycling tour leads from Dačice via Kostelní Vydří, Zadní Vydří, Kostelní Myslová, Telč, Radkov, Černíč and Malý Pěčín back to Dačice. It passes through ponds, forests and quiet villages and is considered a recreational ride.
