Culture and history

A Baroque chateau stands on the hill west above the stream and the valley in which Onšov stretches. It was built from 1738 onward and completed in 1787 after an interruption. Today, the Baroque chateau in Onšov serves as a retirement home.

A granite cross stands in the cemetery of the Onšov Church of Saint Martin. A chapel of the Virgin Mary stands in the cemetery’s surrounding wall. The originally Romanesque Church of Saint Martin in Onšov is presumably connected with a former fortress and probably dates from the first half of the 13th century.

Landscape

At 544 m above sea level, Hůra Hill near Onšov is a prominent landscape feature. The summit can be reached from Onšov via a forest path and offers a view of the valley below the hill. A cross with a plaque can also be seen on Hůra Hill above Onšov; the plaque provides information about the former Church of the Transfiguration, which was demolished in 1818.

Events

The cycling and tourism event “Kolem dokola Košeticka,” held repeatedly, passed through Onšov in its 8th edition on 26 August 2023; a starting point and a refreshment station were located there. During the event, a food and beverage stand was open at the Onšov fire station.

The Pálení čarodějnic festival was held repeatedly in Onšov on 30 April, specifically in 2023, 2025, and 2026.
