Stojčín: Hotels and Accommodation

Stojčín lies on the slopes of Číhalův vršek. The electrified railway line from Veselí nad Lužnicí to Jihlava, built in 1887, runs through the village.

History and Villagescape

The first written mention of Stojčín dates back to 1365. The name of the village was probably derived from the personal name Stojata, which is no longer in use today. A monument to those who fell in the First World War stands on the village green.

Počátky–Žirovnice railway station was completed in 1887 and has a major influence on Stojčín's architecture. The electrification of the railway line in 1979 brought the era of steam locomotive service to an end. The station building and the waiting room at Počátky–Žirovnice station are not accessible to people with disabilities.

A route towards Stojčín passes through a forest with a Stations of the Cross consisting of 14 painted stations.

Landscape

Deep forests surround Stojčín, offering opportunities for walking and collecting mushrooms and wild berries. There are many erratic boulders in the surrounding area, and the hilly landscape is suitable for cycling. Numerous ponds around Stojčín offer opportunities for swimming.

Stojčín has a renovated tennis court with changing rooms and showers.

Several properly marked hiking trails run near Stojčín, including routes to Javořice, Telč, Slavonice, Strmilov, Jindřichův Hradec, Kamenice nad Lipou and Pelhřimov.

The “Středem Vysočiny” cycle route starts at Počátky–Žirovnice railway station and reaches the summit of Javořice at kilometre 14.5.

A route accessible from Počátky near the Počátky–Stojčín railway stop mentions Velký Pařezitý rybník, which offers opportunities for swimming, camping and refreshments.
