Culture and History

The Church of Saint Anthony in Míškovice is listed in the central Czech register of immovable cultural monuments. It was built between 1922 and 1927; the design was created by the architect F. L. Gahura, who came from Zlín. As a 1927 constructivist building based on a design by František Lydie Gahura, it is significant in the history of modern architecture. It was consecrated on 29 June 1928. The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua has an altar window depicting Saint Anthony, as well as a Stations of the Cross with high reliefs.

The late Baroque Chapel of Saint Florian dates from the late 18th century and is listed as an immovable cultural monument. It is located at the crossroads of the roads to Mysločovice and Machová, next to the cemetery. The Míškovice cemetery was established in 1928 based on a design by František Lydie Gahura. The memorial to the victims of the First World War stands in front of the cemetery gate. On the village square is a stone statue of Saint Joseph dating from 1895. South of the cemetery, on the road to Mysločovice, stands a stone statue of Our Lady of Lourdes dating from 1891.

Křemenná near Míškovice is also one of the locality's historical points of reference. The site is significant for the Early Stone Age. A burial ground of the Nitra culture dating from the beginning of the Bronze Age was also discovered at Křemenná near Míškovice. The archaeological traces identified here therefore extend far beyond the more recent architectural history of the municipality.

Nature and Landscape

Kurovický Quarry Nature Monument lies in the surroundings of Kurovice, Tlumačov, Míškovice and Machová. Cycle Route No. 5271 passes by nearby Kurovický Quarry; bicycle racks are available at the entrance. Between Míškovice and Machová, the Potoky pond complex and the surrounding field groves form a biocorridor and provide a habitat for many animals. In the cadastral area of Míškovice, biocorridor BK–25, with ponds N1, N2 and N3, was restored from 2000 onwards. The landscapes mentioned thus range from the nature monument in the wider surroundings to ponds and field groves in the cadastral area.

Events

Several events with different focuses are part of the local annual calendar. Every year at the end of summer, the local small-animal breeders' association holds small-animal exhibitions. In Míškovice, the Czech Gardeners' Association holds an exhibition of fruit, vegetables and flowers, as well as a slivovitz tasting. Celebrations in honour of Saint Florian take place in Míškovice on 4 May.
