Hotels in Cetechovice in the Chřiby Mountains

Cetechovice lies in the heart of the Chřiby Mountains. Above the village rises Mount Brdo, reaching 587 metres, while the paths and natural formations around the village reveal different facets of this landscape. These include springs, rocks, forests and historical traces closely connected with Cetechovice marble.

Nature

The Studýnka Panny Marie spring is located above Cetechovice, on the western slope of Mount Pláňava. Below the spring lies Mořské oko, a natural formation. A path runs along the ridge of the surrounding Chřiby Mountains, separating the Cetechovice Forest from the Buchlov Forest.

In the immediate surroundings, near Mramůrka approximately 800 metres southeast of Cetechovice, there is a piece of seabed from the Jurassic period, around 120 million years ago. It is present in the form of limestone transformed into marble. At the foot of the 561-metre-high Mount Vlčák, southeast of Cetechovice, there are also three former marble quarries. The Gavendova skála rock formation is rugged, very steep in places and dangerous.

Culture

The local Mramůrka rock is associated with the former extraction of marble in Cetechovice. Cetechovice marble was used for the portals and all door surrounds at Kroměříž Castle. It was also used for several altars in Olomouc Cathedral and the Church of St James in Brno.

In the centre of Cetechovice stands a stone crucifix dating from 1753. On the village square near the castle is a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from around the turn of the 19th century. The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Cetechovice is a late medieval church that was remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries. Inside is a tombstone for Jan Kokorský z Kokor, who died in 1559.

History

The Baroque Cetechovice Chateau was built between 1731 and 1738 on the site of a Renaissance fortress. It is a simple rectangular Baroque building with a small courtyard and a monumental portal. At the same time, the chateau has a four-wing layout around an irregular courtyard and a mansard roof.

Trails

The “From Cetechovice via Vlčák to Gavendova skála” route begins in Cetechovice and follows a blue-marked hiking trail. A side path from this route leads to the Pod Mramůrkou forest spring, where simple wooden seats have been installed. Mramůrka can be reached on foot via a blue-marked tourist route covering approximately 1 km.
